A 8×8 meter modern cube-shaped house built with cost effective structure concept. This modern cube-shaped house is not precisely 8×8 meter building because a tiny rectangular volume attached at ground floor as room extension. But the first floor of this two-story cube-shaped house has precisely cube form. Thus make total floor area of this seaside contemporary compact house is 142 sqm or approximately 1529 square foot.

Although this two-storey contemporary single family beach house is not build with modern Japanese architecture concept, the room arrangement like nowadays trend of Japanese modern house. Similar with current small Japanese house trend, ground floor or first floor of this modern detached house is for private living space. The first floor (second floor in American term) is for social/communal/gathering area.
Although its small, this compact cube-shaped house has amazingly three bedrooms. Well, you are right, one of them is so small and uses as an office or working space although it has a bunkbed inside. From the entry door, there is a hallway that connects you to each entry door of bedroom. And of course you will see entrance area that leads you to stair. The stair will lead you to first floor of this private residence.
The master bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe. From the walk-in wardrobe there is sliding door to a large bathroom. That big bathroom is the only bathroom that exists in this poured concrete house. Interesting isn’t? Usually communal bathroom is a must or at least there is powder room for guest(s). The bathroom also can be accessed from entrance area.
As I mentioned above, there is rectangular volume attached at ground floor. That rectangular volume is for bathroom extension, and laundry room. The laundry room only can be accessed from outside of this small compact house.
For first floor, open-plan living concept created. A large room consists of living/family area, kitchen, and dining area. The kitchen divided into two zones. First is inline kitchen for cooking. Second is scullery room. Scullery is room or area for washing dishes, refrigerator, and pantry area. There is no bathroom or even powder room in first floor.
Modern Cube-shaped House Decorating Idea
Although this small cube house has reinforced concrete structure (poured concrete walls), woods become its finishing. The woods as finishing materials both exterior and interior bring calm appearance and comfortable ambience. Outside, the cube-formed house wrapped by western red cedar slats. In the interior, American white oak become one of finishing element.
White painted interior color is contrasting with black frame openings. Certain furniture for this small compact house is also has black color. Special treatment executed for fireplace area. Built-in concrete mantle/surround of the metal wood burn fireplace has no finishing. The grey concrete color and wood pattern/texture because of its wood board molding exposed clearly. The inline kitchen has white cabinets and dark countertop. Glass tiles become its backsplash.
For space saving method, certain sliding doors applied. As mentioned above the private areas placed inside ground floor. That placement is for security and privacy reason. High concrete fences build surround the property. This modern cube-shaped house located at side of beach. To maximize the view and enjoying panorama of beach and sea beyond, large glass openings installed at the first floor.
